The Declaration of Independence from the Stereotypes of African-Americans

In American Studies, November 11, 2003

The Unanimous Declaration of the Undersigned

When in the Course of society, it becomes necessary for one race to dissolve all stereotypes associated with that race, with the relations within that race, with the relations between the race and other matters, with the cultural expressions and behaviors of that race, and to assume the legal, ethical, and emotional rights to fight those stereotypes it is required of them that they should declare the causes that impel them to their defiant stand.
We hold these truths to be self-evident that all races men and women are created in equal social standing to their peers, that they are endowed by their Creator to have certain abilities, and that of these abilities are being able to climb the socio-economic ladder, to do what they want in the confines of law and morality, and to be who they are and not be slandered for it. To uphold these truths, a code of ethics has been places in our society, which is also the basis for our interactions, for our laws, and for our self-management. When said truths are denied by the people and the ruling code of morality, it is the right of a race to rise up against the stereotype places upon them and change the laws of morality. Discretion must be used in the matters of changing the long standing codes of morality and that these codes shall not be changed for slight insubordinations. That they should be changed in matters that are serious enough to lead to tears, cultural divisions, and mass confusion. It is a cultures entitlement, it is their obligation to rise up and change such standards set in the code of morality and provide for new ones.-Said insubordinations have been wrought on all cultures, but herein, the African-American culture submits facts against others and themselves that verify these injustices:

They have made it difficult for said African-Americans to “pursue their happiness” as ensured to them in The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
They have mentally set boundaries for said African-Americans to empower and better themselves by categorizing and specifying details of said race.
They have associated African-Americans with the specific and sole ingestion of fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potato pie, Kool-Aid, and watermelon.
They have categorized African-Americans with being late, or on “Colored People Time.”
They have accentuated that African-Americans can solely excel in sports and/or entertainment and not in any excessively intelligent field.
They have deemed African-Americans as the race of people that do not appreciate the classics and prefer rap and hip-hop to classical music.
They have associated African-Americans with the Escalade and Cadillac vehicles.
They have associated African-Americans with Phat Farm, Enyce, FUBU, and Burberry merchandise.
They have associated affirmative action with the main reason that African-Americans are able to get ahead in society.
They have assumed that all/most African-Americans still hold the evils of slavery against the world.
They have equated African-Americans with gangs, backwards hats, pants worn below the waist, nappy hair, scared of dogs, extravagant physical features, loud music, multitudinous expletives, and being disrespectful to women.
They have equated the music produced by African-Americans as loud, disrespectful to women, and concerned with unethical issues of society, ignoring the fact that some of the greatest composers of time in all genres were/are African-American.
They associate African-Americans with poverty and the ghettos of cities.
They have called African-Americans “black” and other things besides African-American.
They have equated Ebonics with African-Americans and mocked African-Americans use of incorrect English, when African-Americans are capable of speaking in correct English.
They have associated “grills”, “ice”, car rims, layaway, ad other expensive material, yet unnecessary, items with African-Americans.
They have associated other stereotypes unnamed by this document that are generally known to the public-some to heinous and vulgar to list.
Throughout the course of the development of these insubordinations of the Code, some African-Americans have fought against the application of these stereotypes adamantly. Our cry for rightness has been answered by non-complacency. This defiance of the Code shows that the current Code of Morality needs to be changed.
African-Americans want it to be made clear that they are upstanding members of the community, that they are moral, fine, and beautiful members of society, and that the application of these stereotypes, even thought some may or may not be true, should not be used in a slanderous manner. These stereotypes have led to the suffering of African-Americans that attempt to achieve a higher plain in society. We, therefore, the representatives of the African-American community, in one accord, appeal to the world to abolish the discriminatory use of these stereotypes, to change the Code, and to respect African-Americans.  We declare ourselves free from these stereotypes and independent to make our own character-one of pride, dignity, and respect. We ask the free world to accept our cry, as we, African-Americans support each other. As we pledge to each other and to all nations our Lives, our character, and most importantly our respect.

A careful note should be taken while reading this Deviation. The African-American stereotype was used because it is common and close to Haressh, but in no mean does he, or any one else here at The Freedom Fighters feel that other races have been wrongfully stereotyped and hurt by society. Enjoy this thought-provoking piece, and keep on a watch on this kid.
